International Voice Masterclass Ebe Stignani is happy to announce that Prof. Vlatka Oršanić will be our honorary head voice teacher 2019.

Oršanić was born in Zabok, Croatia. She spent her childhood in Varaždin where she began her music education at the School of Music. She studied piano from the age of 7 and singing from the age of 14 under Ankica Opolski. At the age of 16 she entered the Academy of Music in Ljubljana, studying voice under Ondina Otta-Klasinc. She graduated in the spring of 1979 and made her debut as Sophie in Werther at Ljubljana Slovene National Theatre Opera and Ballet. She was subsequently engaged as a soloist there and also began making guest appearances in other opera houses in what was then Yugoslavia. From 1985 to 1990 she lived in Vienna, where she pursued further study in solo singing techniques with Olivera Miljaković.

The roles, for which Oršanić received the most attention and recognition are Gilda (Verdi: Rigoletto), Violetta (Verdi: La Traviata – this role accompanied her for a long time in her career),  Queen of the night (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte) and Lucia (Donizetti: Lucia di Lamermoor). In these roles, as well as Adina (Donizzeti: L´elisir d´amore), Rosina (Rossini: Il barbiere di Sivilia), Oscar (Verdi: Un ballo in maschera), Olympia (Offenbach: Les contes d’Hoffmann), Angelica (Orlando),  Pamina (Mozart: Die Zauberflöte), Elvira (Bellini: I Puritani),  in she appeared as a very young singer on all major stages of the former Yugoslavia. Later, the title role Jenufa (Janáček: Jenufa), Katernia Ismailova (D. Shostakovich: Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk), Lady Macbeth (Verdi: Macbeth), Donna Elvira and Donna Anna (Mozart: Don Giovanni), Leonora (Verdi: Il trovatore), Aida (Verdi: Aida), Ariadne (Strauss: Ariadne auf Naxos), Mila (Janáček: Osud), Malinka-Ethera-Kunka (Janáček: The Excursions of Mr. Brouček), Katja (Janáček: Katja Kabanowa ), Rusalka (Dvořák: Rusalka), Princess (Dvořák: Rusalka), Tosca (Puccini: Tosca), Tatjana (PI Tchaikovsky: Eugene Onegin), Margarete ( Gounod: Faust), Vitellia (Mozart: La clemenza di Tito), Elettra (Mozart: Idomeneo), Abigaile (Verdi: Nabucco), Cio-Cio-San (Puccini: Madama Butterfly), Maddalena (Giordano: Andrea Chénier), Dido and Belinda (Purcell: Dido and Aeneas), Genoveva (Schumann: Genoveva), Janja (Gotovac: Kamenik), Herodias (Strauss: Salome), Maddalena (Verdi: Rigoletto), Miss Todd (Menotti: The Old Maid and the Thief), Marcellina (Mozart : Le nozze di Figaro), Kabanicha (Janáček: Katja Kabanova), led her to opera houses and festivals such as: Festival Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Florence, Dresden, Vienna, Vienna Festwochen, Salzburg, Salzburger Festspiele,  Festival d’automne Paris, Antwerp, Cologne, Freiburg (Stadttheater), Essen (Aalto-Theater), Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Leipzig, Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck, Zagreb, Bonn etc. in cooperation with world-renowned conductors such as Michael Gielen, Lovro von Matačić, Semjon Bychkow, Wladimir Jurowski, Kirill Petrenko, Uroš Lajovic, Hans Graf (Dirigent), Pinchas Steinberg, Daniel Harding, Stefan Soltesz, Heinz Holliger, Michael Schønwandt, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Howard Arman, Dieter Rossberg, Tomàš Hanus, Nikša Bareza, Mladen Tarbuk and Ivo Lipanović.

Since 2003 Vlatka Oršanić is also a voice professor at the Academy of Music in Zagreb, where she was also the head of the vocal department from 2007 to 2016. In the years 2006 to 2010 she was also vocal professor at the Music Academy Ljubljana. Her students sing at various opera houses in Europe (Bayerische Staatsoper Munich, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Semperoper Dresden, Grand Théâtre de Genève, Stadttheater St.Gallen, Národní divadlo Praga, Teatro Fenice Firenze, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Opera Krakowska, Gran Teatre del Liceu Barcelona, Opera SNG Ljubljana, Opera SNG Maribor, Opera HNK Zagreb, Opera HNK Ivan Zajc Rijeka, Opera HNK Split and Opera HNK Osijek.
She is the honorary voice professor of many masterclasses for singers and vocal pedagogues and is a jury member in various international singing competitions as well as co-founder and director of the International Singing Competition »Zinka Milanov«, in Rijeka (Croatia).
